Our Story

From informal giving to intentional philanthropy — one retreat at a time.

Together for Good didn’t arrive fully formed. It grew out of a series of family retreats — annual gatherings where Scott and Susan Salka brought the family together not just to connect, but to ask a bigger question: What do we want our family’s impact on the world to be?

The Retreat Journey

Four retreats, one mission

Santa Fe, New Mexico

With facilitation from The Dallas Foundation, the family devised the 5 Pillars of Giving — the framework that would guide every philanthropic decision going forward. This was the moment the family moved from informal generosity to intentional strategy.

Bailey Island, Maine

The family crafted their logo and chose the name “Together for Good.” The initiative went from a set of ideas to a named, branded, shared identity. Bailey Island — already the family’s spiritual home in Maine — became the birthplace of the brand.

Whitefish, Montana

The family refined the pillars, deepened partner relationships, and began planning the technology and communications infrastructure to support the initiative’s growth.

Corfu, Greece

The family adopted the tagline “Empathy in Action” — a phrase that captures not just what the family believes, but how they operate. Corfu marked the transition from planning to execution.
